Options Counseling
Overview
The Options Counseling and Lawyer Referral Service is a program certified by the California State Bar (Cert.# 0114). The program works in conjunction with all of the DRLC's programs and approximately 25 private attorneys in the Southern California area who specialize in Employment Law, Administrative Law, Discrimination in Public Accommodations and Commercial Facilities, and Education Law.
Law students interview callers and do case assessment for all our programs. We will assess your claim and explain your options to you. Your case may be accepted by one of our programs for representation or you may be referred to another legal or social service organization or to an attorney on our Lawyer Referral Service .
Law students externs participate in interviewing callers, conducting legal and factual research, and working with referral attorneys and organizations. Efforts will be made to allow case assignments in an area of interest to the extern. Students with multidisciplinary interests (i.e. business, education, public policy, psychology, architecture and urban planning), or who may be enrolled in a joint degree program are encouraged to apply.
We also hold Ask-A-Lawyer-Days, where DRLC staff conduct intake and offer legal resource referral services to persons on site at different community based organizations, such as Independent Living Centers.
