Joanna Fawzy Morales, Esq., Director

Joanna L. Fawzy Morales, Esq. is the Director of the Cancer Legal Resource Center, a joint program of the Disability Rights Legal Center and Loyola Law School Los Angeles.  Mrs. Morales is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Loyola Law School, teaching a seminar in Cancer Rights Law.

Prior to joining the DRLC staff as a Loyola Law School Post-Graduate Public Interest Law Fellow in 2002, Mrs. Morales spent eight years working at the John Wayne Cancer Institute for its Psychosocial Care Program and Positive Appearance Center.  She started working at the CLRC as a law student extern in January 2000.  Mrs. Morales received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations from the University of California Los Angeles and a JD degree from Loyola Law School.

Mrs. Morales has presented over two hundred seminars throughout the country.  In addition, Mrs. Morales has served on numerous cancer community committees and boards, including as the President of the Board of Directors for Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Los Angeles County Affiliate.  She presently serves as Chair of the American Cancer Society’s California Division Patient Support Team, and as a member of the ACS California Division Access to Care Team and the California Dialogue on Cancer.  Mrs. Morales has been published in a variety of publications, such as Pscho-Oncology, Coping with Cancer, Women, and Ability Magazine.  Recently, she contributed to a book entitled, “Work and Cancer Survivors.”  

Ms. Morales has received numerous awards and recognition for her service to the cancer community, such as the 2009 Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Public Policy Advocate of the Year.  She was also recognized by the Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the Top 20 Attorneys in California Under the Age of 40 in 2010.
