How You Can Help

Volunteer to Work in our Office

Supporters of the Disability Rights Legal Center may get involved in ongoing disability rights work by serving as a pro bono attorney on a disability rights case, working as student law clerks and externs, volunteering to assist with intake and administrative office responsibilities, telling individuals and organizations about the Center and encouraging them to visit our web site, and either giving monetarily or facilitating such monetary giving through supporting our private business partners with your patronage.

No matter who you are, whether you have a disability or not, you may become a disability rights activist. All it takes is a positive philosophy about the abilities of people with disabilities, a belief that people with disabilities have the right to equal opportunity, and a commitment to advancing disability rights, special education, or the legal rights of people with cancer. Below are examples of the kinds of responsibilities that office volunteers may undertake:

  • Providing clerical support (filing, labeling envelopes for mass mailing, assembling literature packets, faxing
  • Updating the in-house disability rights library of organizational materials
  • Compiling information regarding prospective organizations with whom the DRLC wishes to network
  • Taking calls from potential clients
  • Staffing DRLC tables at fairs and other outreach events
  • Speaking about DRLC's services to groups
  • Helping to plan fundraising and outreach events
