How You Can Help
Donations
The A. Milton Miller Memorial Fund (doing business as the Disability Rights Legal Center) is a nonprofit charitable organization as defined under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. For individual tax filers who itemize federal income tax deductions, cash donations to this public charity are fully deductible as provided by the tax laws. Special rules may apply to certain non-cash donations and to contributions not made by individuals; consult your tax advisor. For more information, click here.
Cy Pres Awards
The Cy Pres doctrine permits class and defense counsel to recommend to judges, and permits judges to decide how, and to whom any residual settlement funds should be distributed, in lieu of returning unclaimed funds to settling defendants. Federal courts also may consider Cy Pres awards of unclaimed settlement funds. By California statute, Cy Pres funds can go directly to legal services organizations like the Disability Rights Legal Center. To discuss Cy Pres awards, please contact Paula Pearlman, Executive Director: 213-736-8195 or paula.pearlman@lls.edu

Ensuring the DRLC's Future
The DRLC is planning for the future by establishing the Charles D. Siegal Endowment Fund. This fund, begun with $200,000 donated by Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Neal Roberts and Kenneth Howell and $70,000 donated in honor of Board Member Charles Siegal. Within 10 years, we hope this Endowment will permanently endow a Staff Attorney position at the DRLC. You can contribute to the long-term future of the DRLC by designating a contribution of $40,000 or more for the Endowment or by including the DRLC in your estate planning. For more information on the Endowment, please contact Randi Sunshine at (213) 736-1468.
